GUARDING TRUTH

At Restoration Church, we believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally inspired word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God–breathed (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12-13). We value scripture not as an end in itself but as the word of God which leads us to the person of Jesus. In Jesus is life, light, and truth (John 1:4, 14:6).

In any church there are variations in beliefs from one person to another. These can range from tertiary matters to primary gospel matters. Whilst there is room to move on matters which do not have direct gospel relevance, there is nowhere to move on primary matters without dividing from one another. Gospel distortions will attract the attention of church elders directly because of their relevance to the relationship between church members and Jesus.

This position paper seeks to outline the values which surround the way pastors and leaders at Restoration Church engage those who believe differently to the church statement of faith. It also provides guidelines for the ways Restoration Church will deal with false teaching and false teachers who may seek to deceive church members (publicly or privately) through erroneous teaching. For the purposes of this position paper, false teachings are any teachings which deny or distort some aspect of the gospel.
