Worship Ministry Team
Musicians & Vocalists Expectations Guide
Introduction
This document details the importance of integrity, excellence, character, community, and competence in being a part of the Worship Ministry Team (WMT). The following information provides details about each value, and the kinds of questions that shape how we think about them.
Integrity
At Restoration Church, anyone on stage as part of the WMT, whether a lead worshipper, vocalist, or musician is leading our church community in some capacity. Consequently, we are interested in more than just musical or vocal ability when adding someone to our team.
Our goal is to have a WMT that can minister to the congregation with integrity. Anyone who serves on the team should first and foremost be a worshiper.
A worshipers they must:
Be growing in union and communion with Christ
Model humility and dependence
Value character above talent
Understand that they are under-shepherds to the congregation through song
Be regular attenders of the church and grafted into community
Excellence
Excellence in worship is not about showcasing exceptional talent. Rather, it means striving to remove anything that could distract the congregation as we serve.
As a Worship Ministry Team, we aim to pursue excellence in the following areas:
Musicianship
– Offering your best musical ability with skill and preparation
Attitude
– Maintaining a posture and expression that reflects a true worshipper
Appearance
– Choosing clothing that does not draw attention or distract the congregation
Character
What character traits are we looking for?
Devotion to Jesus
Reliability
Humility
Honesty
Selflessness
A God-honouring lifestyle (Not perfection, but progressing in holiness)
Ability to respond well to others, correction, and mishaps
Good work ethic
Punctual and Prepared
Adherence to the Vision and Mission of Restoration Church
Some “character” questions to consider (for your own reflection):
What does it mean for a person to be:
Teachable?
Hard-working?
Do you consider yourself teachable and hard-working?
Looking at the list of character qualities above, what is:
Your greatest strength of character?
Your greatest character weakness?
What is your relationship with God like? Are you drawing closer to Him?
Who is currently speaking into your life in relation to your Christian walk?
If we were to request that you sit out for a season, how would you respond?
Community
Our goal in community:
We want team members who will engage in the Worship Ministry Team community and become “part of our family”
We do not prefer musicians who “just play” and exclude themselves from church life
We want team members to be relationally available for friendship outside of church
This church must be your church, and we want the privilege of walking with and pastoring you toward godly maturity
We want our team members to actively participate in the life of the church, including Community Groups
Some “community” questions to consider (for your own reflection):
Q. In what ways are you currently involved in the life of the church?
Q. What is the Church to you?
